Finding French Property
There are various ways to find a property in France if you are looking to buy in the country. Some people like to go out to the country and to stay for a while in a relevant region to look at properties immediately whilst others will search for properties from home.
Options on how to find a property in France include:
- The Internet - many French properties will be listed for sale on various Internet sites so this can be a good option to start off with. You may still want to go to France to look at a property you find but looking online first will give you a feel for locations, costs and options.
- Estate agents - estate agents in France work in much the same way as they do in Britain so you can use local estate agents to help you find relevant properties in specific areas. Nowadays you can also deal with UK based estate agents who also have agencies/contacts in areas of France if this is easier for you.
- Private sales - just as in the UK many French people will sell their properties privately rather than go through an estate agent. Again, the Internet can be useful here as many property owners will advertise their properties on relevant sites.
In all cases make sure to get sound legal advice on how to buy a property in France before you commit to buying anything.
