Popular Turkish Regions


Turkey is a land of contrasts which allows the visitor the chance to live in bustling cities, remote rural areas or in tourist coastal resorts. The country is essentially split into seven regions, all of which have something unique to offer.

1. Marmara - Marmara is located in the north western coastal region of Turkey and is the home to Istanbul and the historic sites of Thrace and Troy. The area also contains one of the country main ski resorts by Mount Uludag.

2. Aegean - The Aegean region is located in the south western coastal area of the country. This area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country.

3. Black Sea - The Black Sea region is located to the north of Turkey's coastline. It is well known for its rocky coastline.

4. Central Anatolia - Central Anatolia sits between two mountainous areas. This is the second biggest region in the country.

5. Mediterranean - the Mediterranean region is popular with tourists and is also involved with much of the country's agricultural production.

6. Eastern Anatolia - Eastern Anatolia sits at the north east of the country. The home of Mount Ararat and various other mountains this is the biggest region in Turkey.

7. South east Anatolia - this region is the smallest one in the country and it is home to many historic sites and places of interest.
